Silvia Battistuzzi – Statement

Soy artista visual y psicóloga. Mis trabajos se orientan hacia la relación subjetiva e interpersonal que establezco con los espacios, territorios ligados a historias y vivencias.

Actualmente trabajo con pintura, instalaciones y objetos.

Me aproximo a la primera desde una estética poética, intimista, luminosa, fundamentalmente a la hora de apoderarme del pincel y comenzar a pintar. Asocio usualmente cada unidad pictórica con el concepto de la música dodecafónica, donde ningún elemento o nota prevalece sobre otra.

Pero cuando tengo que construir un objeto o una instalación, la estética se acerca más al mundo de sombras, a la intemperie, las lluvias, los encuentros, el desabrigo, los cambios y las migraciones; aquí el peso del concepto encuentra un espacio que trasciende lo meramente visual.

Para ello utilizo materiales de desecho o en desuso, focalizando en darle identidad, estatuto de objeto a algo que habría caído en puro descarte. A través de la materialidad, resignifico al objeto. Pongo en tensión la seriación de lo industrial con la elaboración manual.
Asimismo, abrevo en elementos y vivencias de mi infancia, como las telas, las manufacturas (muñecas, tejidos, cerámica), las texturas, y el juego de payana (dinenti) por ejemplo... En los objetos como las piedras -elementos que poseen cierta inmutabilidad- busco darles singularidad y al mismo tiempo un carácter mutante.

Me oriento a indagar sobre la materialidad de las superficies, la luz, la opacidad, las pausas, las existencias. Me interesa la idea de enfrentar los obstáculos, las situaciones de vida con sus contingencias, pensar en poder transformar algo nimio, cotidiano, desechable, en algo plausible de generar otros espacios capaces de contener vida a pesar del caos; poder resistir con los simples objetos en una experiencia cercana y vital. Apelar a un fragmento de tiempo de experiencias donde lo indeterminado -a pesar y junto al caos- pueda ocupar un lugar protagónico.

I am a visual artist and psychologist. My work is oriented towards the subjective and interpersonal relationship that I establish with spaces, territories linked to stories and experiences.

I currently work with painting, installations and objects.

My approach to the former is from a poetic, intimate, luminous aesthetic, basically when it comes to picking up the brush and start painting. I usually associate each pictorial unit with the concept of dodecaphonic music where no element or note prevails over another.

But when I have to build an object or an installation, the aesthetic is closer to the world of shadows, to the weather-worn, the rains, the encounters, the unsheltered, the changes and the migrations; here the weight of the concept finds a space that transcends the merely visual.

For these I use waste or disused materials, and focus on giving identity, a status of object, to something that otherwise simply would have been tossed away. Through materiality, I resignify the object. I stress the role of manual elaboration as opposed to industrial seriation Also, I find inspiration in elements and experiences of childhood (the textures of fabric and woven tissues, the manufacture of dolls and ceramics, and the payana or dinenti, the five-stones game, for example). In objects such as stones -elements that have a certain immutability- I seek to give them uniqueness and at the same time a mutant character.

I tend to inquire about the materiality of the surfaces, the light, the opacity, the pauses, the existences. I am interested in the idea of facing obstacles, situations in life with their contingencies, thinking about how to transform something insignificant, from everyday life, disposable, into something that can plausibly generate other spaces which can contain life despite the chaos; of managing to resist with the mere objects in a closer and vital experience; of appealing to the experiences from a fragment of time when -despite and beside chaos- the indeterminate can play a leading role.
